Looking back through this thread's history, I find myself somewhat confused as to why we are even discussing plugins to begin with.
Did you add the name of the genre column in the "Categories with heirarchical items" box under Preferences ==> Interface ==> Look and Feel ==> Tag Browser?
This setting is a per-library setting, and won't appear anywhere in the configuration folder.
