I totally agree with this article. But I would add one more item: comedy is so subjective, it's hard to even go by the recommendations of others.

The author of this Cracked article really likes Douglas Adams (so do I!), but also loved Moore's Lamb, which I don't think even caused me to crack a smile while reading. Same thing with A Confederacy of Dunces, the author of this piece loved it but I found it full of bland slapstick and fart jokes that I would have rolled my eyes at in junior high. This isn't because Lamb and A Confederacy of Dunces are unfunny (and everyone who likes them is wrong), they're just not the type of funny that I find funny.
