I like telling people that in the books—especially the early ones—there are always two mysteries to solve. One is the murder itself, the other is how the heck Mason is going to get himself out of the major jam he got himself into by pulling some bonehead stunt that blew up in his face. And sometimes it's the latter mystery that makes the book so entertaining.
