Don Quixote. It's a book I can keep coming back to. It helps that I don't have to read the whole thing when I want to come back to it. There are other books that I loved reading, but don't have the same inclination to come back to it. Sometimes, coming back to it doesn't have to mean re-reading it, but merely thinking about it. A really good book can keep you thinking about it for years. Even though he causes harm to himself and others, it's hard not to root for him.

Night Watch is my favorite of Terry Pratchett's Discworld books. We need more Sam Vimes in charge of police departments, and less "One must be a bad cop to be a good cop".
