As much as I miss the page turn buttons of my Kindle 3 (Kindle Keyboard; I got mine when it wasn't yet officially called that), I find the touchscreen of the Paperwhite a lot more comfortable to use for every other purpose than page turning - especially the on-screen keyboard, compared to the small and hard physical buttons of the Kindle 3.
I haven't tried the Basic Kindle, but I'd assume the touchscreen on-screen keyboard of the Paperwhite is, for most people, much more convenient and faster to use than navigating the on-screen keyboard of the Basic Kindle (I'm guessing the basic Kindle is targeted at people who need the keyboard only minimally).
I do have rather narrow fingers though, so the Paperwhite's on-screen keyboard presents no problems for me. And things like choosing/opening a book or looking up words in the dictionary are much faster and more comfortable than they were on the Kindle 3.
