Have you successfully charged it from a PC before? Not all USB ports are equal, even on the same PC - some just plain don't work for charging.
I would, however, second igorsk's recommendation for a PlayStation Portable (PSP) charger. They can be obtained very cheaply and work just fine with the Reader.
