CVS is the regional Pharmacy Chain

CSV is the filename extension that has been USED for over 40 YEARS for Comma separated Variables. One of the 2 most commonly used file types when moving data sets between differing programs. (The other was DBF. good ole' dBase)

I don't know how long you have been using computers, but many of the folk that have been answering here started with paper tape and punched cards.

CSV files, when imported into Calc or Excel will normally present a field-map verification/adjustment screen that shows the detected columns and the guessed data format type . You need to (adjust and) confirm to get to the final spreadsheet (column NAMES and partial date types most commonly trip up auto detect)
