Baby step, baby step, and yet....

Yesterday, one of the Kindle Daily Deals was an account by Alistair Cooke of the American Home Front in the early days of WWII. I like that kind of thing and I've always enjoyed anything I've read by Cooke. It was only $1.99 and ordinarily would have been a reflex buy. But on reflection, I acknowledged that it wouldn't add anything to my knowledge of the subject and that I already have unread WWII books on my TBR, so I passed.
