I think many of those who buy extended warranties on these do so for the accidental damage coverage, rather than out of fear of the electronics failing. It's not at all hard to break an e-ink screen, and $20-30 or so for two years coverage against damage from falls or spills into water makes sense to some.
SquareTrade provides aftermarket warranty coverage, as well as the extended warranty available on the Amazon site. You have 30 days from the date of purchase to decide.
