I was just wondering how some had their books deleted from their ereader.

In reference to the
1984 debacle at Amazon, they did not delete the book from your ereader. They deleted it from your library. Therefore, if you did not have a DRM free one on your computer, you lost access to it if you had deleted it off the kindle or if you registered a new device. I've had similar experience when I have 'returned' an ebook to Amazon. It deletes out of my library within a few hours, but stays on my unit until I delete it. Sure, you could abuse this a bit, but I normally only return when I get the wrong version of something.
Don't confuse this with the Overdrive method of "expiration". In that case, you have access to the book, even past expiration, until you hook your unit up to the Internet and it syncs. Then it 'expires.'
