cmd to go to next and prev page somehow changed

This morning (and for all the weeks I've used calibre) when I was reading using the e-book viewer, I got to the next and prev pages by typing down arrow or up arrow.

This resulted in an instantaneous vertical transition.

Something happened between when I closed the e-viewer this morning and when I started it again so that this no longer works. Now down arrow or up arrow just move a line, not the whole page.

I looked at setting -> keyboard shortcuts, and I have been trying to fix this, unsuccessfully. I can't find out what these operations are called.

There, scroll to the next/prev page does a visible horizontal shift of an entire page in a way that makes me seasick. scroll down does just a one line shift.

What is the name of the action for go to the next or prev page instantaneously vertically? Or if it has no name, how do I map preferably down arrow and up arrow to those?

i am running 0.9.42.

And out of curiosity, what the heck caused this to happen?

Thanks.

update: here is what I found experimenting, trying to find these commands:

scroll to the next and prev sections are go by chapters.

scroll to next and prev page are the seasick rolling horizontal by page

scroll down (j) goes by only one line

back (said to be alt+left) not sure what left is - tried simultaneous alt and left arrow, that did nothing.
