We got more snow then was predicted in the DC area. (shrugs) If they called for the storm to hit in the evening, then there is no reason to tell people to stay off the road during the day. When the storm starts early, it causes trouble.

The problem we have in my area is that one bad call led to Atlanta like traffic and issues about three years ago. Since then, any possibility of snow or ice leads to an early closure of everything. 95% of the time it is an over reaction and people like me get pissed off.

Three years ago my Husband and I both saw the snow start early and left work because we knew the predicted storm was bad. Many people didn't. The Federal Government shut everything down at the same time and traffic jammed bad. Then the meat of the storm hit, hours earlier then it was suppose to.

If more people had left when they saw the stuff coming down sooner then predicted there would not have been a problem.

There is a desire to work and not use vacation days, I feel that pull, so people stay when they shouldn't. But the aftermath has been at least four days this year and several days last year where things were shut down when there was no need. As in the roads were totally clear, an inch of snow feel and it was 35 degrees out so nothing stuck.

It is a tricky business. I fall on the we should all be adults and decide for ourselves when it is safe or not. I prefer the delays with liberal leave possibility so that people can make their own determination. No one is punished if they feel that it is not safe to drive and those who feel that it is safe can work.
