I don't have any experience with the Nexus 7 2012. However, as I recall, the Nook HD has a higher res screen than that one. I have read many comments from people stating that the 2013 edition is superior to the 2012 edition.

I got mine with a coupon from staples for $50 off, so keep an eye out in case they do that again.
