Three years later, the 20%-25% difference in power often doesn't matter. If my computer can't run the software or game, theirs can't run it either. But hey; I saved 50%+ of the money, so I just stick a new graphics card in there and the latest cpu that still fits the mainboard, and I can go for another three years. Surprise: after such an upgrade, my system often becomes faster than that of my friends, while I *STILL* didn't spend the amount of money they did.
The only problem: I have no bragging rights.

Sure you do. You've done it yourself and it may on occasion be even better and you can afford other neat stuff to brag about if you actually want to brag. Better not to brag about that money you save or someone will be trying to weasel it out of you
