In the first instance, after you get the error. Ignore it and then just run the Companion software from the SD card as allovertheglobe suggests. IT should run.
If it doesn't it has been corrupted (heppened to me once). If that is the case. delete the companion software .exe file & run the updater. It should then try to update itself & fail (just click ok) if not connected to the irex, but then, it should download the latest PC companion software.
Alternatively, you can download the software form the irex website. It's in the downloads area as a zip file containing all the files.
