That's because the first time you ever use it, you need to tell Firefox to open .acsm files in ADE/Sony reader, rather than, say, opening it in MSWord/calibre/NotePad/any program on your computer/possibly even Chrome/Firefox/IE!! Which would be a problem.

In theory, ADE/Sony reader was supposed to tell FF/IE/Chrome that it handles .acsm files, but clearly it didn't work -- maybe you installed FF after you installed ADE/Sony reader?

Once you do that, the choice will always be associated with .acsm files in the future.
