I am going to make a separate Calibre library I think with a custom column to add where purchased and store my original format books. I like the setup I have now (where I only keep the finished ePub in my main Calibre library with all the metadata corrected). I keep the original version and finished ePub in another folder (subfoldered by fave authors, a miscellaneous folder, and undecided folder for books by new to me authors I haven't read and so I'm not sure I will keep).
I have lost access to my DRM'd LIT books the last time I reformatted as I couldn't activate the Microsoft Reader. With the new ADE coming, I just want to ensure I can access the original versions all of my books in the future. You never know when you may need to.

this is a great idea. like you, i have all my originals saved and backed up outside of calibre, but that means DRM still applies. running them through calibre would take care of that.... now i have to figure out how to create a second library. oy...
