Sorry to take so long to get back to this thread... swamped with work.
I'll check out my father's library this weekend. I know he had Zane Grey, Louis L'amour and a few others as part of a couple anthologies. and forward all the suggestions.
BTW, he has a Kindle 2 and a KDX (passed on from me). He much prefers reading on the Kindles and really only likes the tablet for solitaire, taking and viewing photos and the occasional Google Hangout call to my Aunt (she has a Kindle 3 and original Kindle Fire).
