I've used Amazon Prime for many years, quite a few of those on Free memberships. I also share my account with my parents. They live at a different address and get full Prime shipping benefits. I'm not sure if that's still possible or they were grandfathered in.
For the number of things I can buy cheap from Amazon after reading reviews, and the fact that it has replaced Netflix ($84/year) for my kids, I find it to be a very good value. I live in a rural area and the only shopping option within 30-45 minutes driving distance is Walmart. When comparing Amazon vs. Walmart prices, Amazon wins, even for necessities like toilet paper. When I consider the convenience factor, time and gas savings, it's a no-brainer.
