Also, I think you need to define what you mean by classic westerns? And are you looking specifically for public domain Westerns (and therefore presumably free) or just very good stories. I imagine your father would probably also enjoy Louis L'Amour and Elmer Kelton as well. And I think Lonesome Dove is an essential as well (Don't worry, it is as long as 3-4 other westerns ).

Finally you might want to check out the Western Writers of America. They have a list of all their Spur award winners; essentially giving you dozens of very good books to read.
