Amazon will give you a refund on any book. Another reason to go all Amazon for ebooks.
Kobo kepubs can be read on any ereader in the same way that Amazon ebooks can be read on any ereader: by removing DRM and converting to the format of your choice. (The DRM used on Kobo kepubs is not Adobe DRM.) A Kobo app is needed to download the kepub book if you don't have a Kobo device, just as those without an Amazon device need to download using an Amazon app.
