Not that I've heard. There are bombings in southern Thailand almost weekly, anti-personnel attacks, mostly against military and religious targets. So often, in fact, that international news has stopped reporting them. Those are the work of the Islamic movement, and usually claimed by them by the various terrorist/separatist groups. (The want southern Thailand given back to Malaysia as it was originally.)
This one up here in the north may have been more of a 'scare tactic' by someone in the latest political barrage by the Red Shirt faction that has been so active down in Bangkok. Its placement was designed NOT to injure anyone... It was put near a traffic signal in the middle of a large road intersection where no pedestrians would cross, and wasn't powerful enough to damage vehicles. Traffic wasn't even stopped around it as the police did their work.
