I don't get why people get so put out by having a few extra free books on their account.

I cannot speak for anyone else but personally I use MYK along with Kindle for PC to maintain copies of my entire library locally. Therefore seeing the total counts helps me to narrow down if any books are missing. Since the dictionaries/user guides are not k4pc compatible having them in my MYK makes it much harder to maintain control of my library.
But that is really irrelevant, just because it is offered for free does not mean users should be forced to use them. Especially in multiple languages. If I chose to delete all dictionaries that I did not want and then later decided I did, then I would have to purchase a dictionary to meet my needs. Yes I had one for free, but that is a consequence of my actions which I chose to take. And as Eschwartz stated they are all put back on the account when the device is re-registered, so the user should continue to have the option to remove them from MYK.
And while I would love to be able to get rid of them, I am content that they do not show up under books.
