I never read 50 Shades, so I can't say. I'd say they are BDSM light. There's a contract in the first book and definitely 24/7 sub lifestyle in all 3 but the h's were not shy virgins and not really TSL (maybe only a time or two). The men were alpha doms, sometimes a--holey, and basically fell in insta-lust-love (and I happen to enjoy that trope). Overall I enjoyed all of the characters. I enjoyed the books, didn't luuuuurve them, even though I did give them 4 stars - mostly because I rated them right after I read them and they made me feel happy and feel good and I still loved all of the characters in the end If I went back, I'd probably have to downgrade to 3.5 because the stories did lack a little bit of depth. But I would re-read them (if I ever, you know, got through my TBR) and I would definitely read more of the series if she came out with more. She wrapped it up pretty good, but there are a couple of side characters/romances where I could see her producing a novella to give us readers a little more.

I hear what you're saying about the 50 Shades thing though. I probably would have avoided them too if I weren't already a Maya Banks fan. In fact, I avoided the Sylvia Day books for the same reason - never read her so shied away because of the similarities (supposed?) to 50 Shades.

Wow... prolly way more than you bargained for with your question!
