Most people don't need to worry about file names being case-sensitive in Linux. If you're opening files by selecting them from a dialogue box, the case doesn't matter.

I assume by blanks you mean spaces, in which case, why not? I have plenty of files and directories on my Linux boxes with spaces in the names, and have no issues.
