Famous is a strange word... outside literary circles and New York City I am not certain E.L. Doctorow is all that famous in the popular sense of the word. Mainstream exposure to E.L. Doctorow comes primarily from the movies made from a few of his novels... most notably "Ragtime" and "Billy Bathgate"
