Search function is basically everywhere in Win8. But if the OP was using the "ModernUI" version of Kindle for PC, the book is stored where he won't ever find it. Basically, I find that app totally useless for a number of reasons. However, if you're on a Win8 Tablet you _may_ not have a choice. ("Pro" tablets can run the Win7 version of K4PC. ARM processor based "Surface" and "Surface 2" non-pro tablets can NOT.)
