An interesting point is the margin of error in the survey, which is given (for the entire survey) as +/- 3.4%. That is, there's a 95% chance that the real value is within 3.4% of the given value.

This means, unsurprisingly, that the percentage of American adults who have read a book in the past year in print or ebook form has remained statistically constant at around 76%. (79,74,76 for 2011,2012,14), as has the number who've read a print book at 68% (71,65,69).

But ebook reading is really increasing. 17% in 2011, 23% in 2012 and 28% in 2014.

Another interesting point relegated to a footnote is that half of American adults have read 5 or more books over the past year, which is better than I expected.

Yet another intersting point is that the mean is 12 books a year, and given that there are about 225 million US adults, that's 2.7 billion books read in the US each year!
