I've send the following to Kobo support (help@kobo.com):
Hey guys,
New Kobo Aura user here (as of today) and can't say it's been without issue.
I need to reboot (power off completly) my Aura in order for it to restore WiFi connectivity. This happens persistently after sleep mode or wifi disconnect (manual or automatic). The first connection is always succesfull.
After a bit of googling I found out that this is an cross platform Kobo issue with users of Fritzbox routers.
See this thread for more information and victims:

FRITZ!Box Firmware
Version of the firmware currently installed: 58.04.84
What happens is that after recovery the Kobo Aura connects to the router succesfully but instantly disconnects. Confirmation below from the Fritzbox log:
Log entries of the Fritzbox:

Also on the Kobo Aura this can be visibly confirmed as it displays the WiFi connected icon (full strength pops up), immediately followed by a grey WiFi icon. Shortly there after the icon disappears completely and the Kobo Aura then displays "Something went wrong... Please try again."
Please fix this asap, a hotfix would be greatly appreciatted.
Cheers,
