successful android on Kobo: pro & cons
Hi,
Developers have succeeded in porting android on to our dear Kobo readers.
I just wanted to share my views on the result:
Pro:
- less than 2 hours install
- 8 euro for the sdcard
- direct file browsing inside sdcard
- multiple readers app (coolreader, fbreader ...)
- acrobat reader with text reflow for pdf viewing
- possibility to install many fonts without the 3rd page freezing
- epub3 can be opened in browser for javascript enhancement
- shortcuts available everywhere on desktop
- access to google play for games / tools (especially offline dictionaries)
- there is a kobo app on android
Cons:
- requires some computer knowledge for fine tuning
- no usable rotation (landscape still buggy)
- many apps look ugly on eink
- lots of apps on google play display ads and ask for internet access as permission
- I don't use the kobo store app, so I don't know how it works
- it is only android version 2.3.1
Hope this helps people wondering if this option is the right one for them.
Regards
François
