Harald I of Denmark had constant tooth ache, his front teeth were so inflamed they became dark, his nickname was Blåtand, in English Bluetooth. The Swedish company Anoto developed a reading pen, essentially a small scanner aimed at students, and wanted it to communicate wirelessly with laptops. The CEO of that company was a history buff and named the technology after the king.
