Vanilla Kindle has had no problems but very little use since I received my PW as a gift in February '13. I'm pretty sure it's a K 4 and I need to update my info: my entire family got them for Christmas the year the price dropped below $100.
PW 1st Gen had a battery issue and couldn't hold a charge for more than an hour. It came on suddenly a few weeks before the warranty expired, so Amazon replaced it.
