When you start the app the first time, it scans all epub files on your device which means that metadata is extracted from every file so title and author can be displayed. If important files are missing in an ebook, errors can occur during metadata extraction and these errors were not handled correctly.

Depending on the number of ebooks stored on your device scanning can take several seconds. Did you see the spinning wait cursor when you started the app or just a white screen?
