iBooks on Mavericks with non-retina display

When I view books on a non-retina macbook-pro running Mavericks, the fonts appear a little fuzzy. I believe this is because ibooks is pretty much optimized for retina displays, the same book looks fine and the text is crisp on a retina display computer.

Is there anything I may be able to tweak in the preferences or with the EPUB that could solve this issue?
