Yeah .... I had a pen like that, by Adesso. It was ok, but having the ability to record sound makes all the difference in the world. I find I listen and participate more since I don't have to worry about my notes being perfectly complete. If I'm taking down a phone number ... I just record and my notes just consist of a P with a circle around it. I can always add the number later because the computer actually syncs in any changes I make in the notes ... so the computer and the notebook are always the same.
The pen is a little larger than the usual pen, but I haven't found it to be too large or uncomfortable to use. The thing is ... since they sell these at Target, it's really easy to go over there and try the thing out .... or get it from Amazon and use their 30 day return policy.
Everyone who tried mine out at the Bar Convention went home swearing they were going to get one. The 2G version is only $200 .... and the replacement notebooks are only $5. As far as I'm concerned, tech doesn't get much better than this.
