need help: upgrade's frozen my ereader

I'm wondering if anyone can help. This morning, my ereader got stuck, wouldn't respond to my touch, so i tried to turn it off. no luck. tried to do a soft reset, no luck. tried to connect and disconnect to pc, no luck. finally did a hard reset.

it was running software that was about a year old. so i knew it would update to current version.

problem is, the new version of software (3.0.1) keeps causing all sorts of problems. every five pages, the ereader stops responding. makes me do a soft reset. even if i exit a book after only a few pages, it doesn't keep my place, either.

in the last 15 minutes, it's stopped responding three times. did a soft reset each time, and each time it comes back on, works for a few minutes, then stops responding.

help? any thoughts on:
a) is there an easy way to go back a version of the kobo software that would be more stable?
b) any way to prevent 3.0.1 from having all these freezes?

all i really want at this point is a usable ereader again. thanks.
