Ahh, but Amazon does not have to go out of business.
Waaaayyyyyy back in the day, when Amazon was new (I know, I am old), I bought some ebooks on Amazon. Mind you, this is before portable devices other than bulky laptops, but I fancied myself to be on the cutting edge, and this Ebook thing called to me, but I digress....
Anyway, a couple of years later, Amazon bought Mobi, started selling books in Mobi format later and decided to create their own format, which they based on Mobi.
In their infinite wisdom they decided to retire their previous (leased) format. Guess what happened to my books, in that previous format?
Poof, gone!
Looking at my Amazon purchase history nowadays, I can't even find said books.
No, my friends, I will happily buy DRM books only as long as I can remove that crap post haste.
I've been burned by Amazon, Fictionwise and Barnes and Noble.
Caveat emptor.
