Nope...I'm in the part of the US Pacific Northwest that most matches the UK in terms of latitude and climate. I still had a cable succumb to this issue. I think it was simply hit or miss in terms of production quality--there are plenty of similar stories about Apple iPhone/iPod/iPad cables, especially those with the 30-pin connector.

And it sure looks like Amazon's figured out there was an issue; their current cables appear to be better quality, and the AmazonBasics ones they sell are almost over-built.
