Why would only professional grade tools make it useful to have a high resolution screen? The increased resolution would be good regardless of how many filters and effects your editor has available.

While there's nothing as extensive as full Photoshop, Pixlr Editor is as powerful on ChromeOS as say Paint.net is on Windows. I use it professionally all the time, for website images and adapting screenshots in work instructions and presentations. So it's 'professional grade' enough for my work, though obviously it may not be enough for professional photographers or graphic artists.
