Cuz sardines is the name for the babies. Pilchards and Herring are the names for the grown-up fishies of the family Clupeidae.

Skunk Cabbage by any other name still smells as bad... I don't even like to be in the same city as an open can of pilchards or sardines. I regret that too, as sardines are a perfect travel food, convenient, nutritious, and not expensive. Unfortunately for me, uneatable as well.
