Where did you get your understanding that you should use a K2 image on a DX? Link please.
Having a Kindle 3 (K3) will not help you replace the 2.5.8 DX image.
You may be confusing directions on how to cross-breed a Firmware series 2 device and a Firmware series 3 image.
