If you want to make it impossible for him to get access to the other books then the only way is to set up a seperate account.
However if you just want to have it so that the other books are not synced to his device (but allow him to change that if he wants) then you can do this for each book on the device that you don't want to sync:
1. In the device's library, long press on the book title.
2. Select "Remove" from the menu that pops up.
3. Tick the "eReader" box, but leave the "Kobo account" box unticked on the dialog that pops up, and press "Remove".
Then in Settings > Library settings, tick the "Only show downloaded items" box.
These devices are really designed to work with one person per account. When you have multiple devices sharing the same account, it is really assumed that it is the same person using all of the devices. So having different people sharing the same account is going to be a bit clumsy.
