Blu when converting your books in Calibre conversation window under look and feel tab you will see see a bunch of check boxes make sure to check the box fonts and this will fix that problem. It will remove all font family references from the style sheet. You can then change the font on your Kindle.

Ok I'll try that. if I do that to my whole library will it apply next time I sync it? Or will I have to delete my whole library, reconvert, and sync from fresh?
Just opened up Calibre, so I check the box 'embed referenced fonts'?
and check 'subset all embedded fonts'? check them both?
