Make sure to set the device driver to use AZW3 as default.
- Plug in your device
- Rightclick the device icon that appears.
- Click "Configure this device"
Then make sure AZW3 is at the top of the list. MOBI is the default. While that will work, it will destroy most of the layout of the EPUB books, as MOBI is a much older format. AZW3 will retain all the layout (with the exception of huge dropcaps: the Kindle, or Calibre's conversion, doesn't appear to support them, and they get rendered as a normal letter).
