Freetime unlimited seems interesting if Ican teach my little one to use a computer more. Seems like something good for kids, however IMHO I think your child and mine need to understand some technical issues here before they go hoping back and forth between an ipad and a kindle fire:

1) First and most important thing that they need to understand is given that an ipad is an apple product its all about proprietary (available from only one vendor) and in my real world job as a network administrator BAD. Apple strictly guards who they will let publish their software in their app store. The Fire is also proprietary but not at the same level as apple is (there is a jailbreak which will allow you to remove the proprietary aspects) much of the non-proprietary google play store is available for the fire.

2) There are some tablets available that are not proprietary and can chop on the more open Google Play store.
