They're both excellent devices with terrific displays and lights. I doubt you'd be unhappy with either. Unless you're a fontmonster like me.
It's near-trivial to strip DRM and convert between formats, so if you're on-board with that, shopping venue is near-irrelevant. Choose instead based on the real-life differences between the devices that matter to you: size as you say, font management and display customisation, the more niche aspects of ecosystem that matter on-the-ground (eg investment in Whispersync or Pocket, etc), customer service, and so on.
