In November I bought a refurbished Aura and liked it very much. Nice weight, nice form factor and the great ability to control the brightness with two fingers.
However when lighted the screen colour wasn't even, pretty much the same way as my first Aura HD but more disturbing, and the contrast wasn't that great. Both problems were moot with the light off.
In the end, I preferred to get a refund and I kept on using the Mini and Aura HD.

Thanks for all your advice
I bought a brand new Aura three days ago. I suspect it is one of the latest batches manufactured as they have only been released in Australia and the firmware was 3.1.1.

The screen colour on my Aura is even but there is a slight dark patch about 1 cm from the edges. This is not an issue for me as this is within the margins of the book. I can't compare the contrast with the Aura HD but I note that the font weight and font sharpness can be adjusted in the font settings (go to Font Face, Advanced). I know if this will not affects actual contrast of the screen but I am sure it would affect the apparent contrast.
