The iPhone makes this is easy-peasy (don't know about Android phones since I've never used one)
You can open any .mobi file in the Kindle app. Just email the file to yourself, go to your email on the phone, click on the book file in the email, and it will ask you what app you want to open it with (the Kindle app should be one of the choices). Choose the app, and the book will then load and open in the Kindle app and it will then be listed in your Kindle home page so you can open it directly in the app the next time.
This also works with ePubs. Follow the same steps as above but when you click on the book file, it should ask you whether you want to open it in iBooks or any other reader you have that will read ePub.
