I was afraid of that... I'm not sure what to tell amazon. I'm afraid that since I can't pinpoint the problem and that it manifests itself when I load through calibre they will tell me it's not their problem.

Thanks for the info!! Ironically, calibre still loads the books and they seem to be okay... calibre just spits out the same error about the metadata permission. And, of course, since it also thinks it can't see the device (or whatever) the Kindle Collections button is missing so I can't do that either.
