? Could be that it is downloading new firmware. It will download dictionaries on the fly however that requires the user to select which dictionaries are wanted before it happens. The only other thing would be if you bought a book or selected a preview.
In the case of a firmware update it generally asks you if you wish to update after the firmware has successfully downloaded.
